HelloI am Michelle of JOIE Birth Doula. I am a birth and postpartum doula providing support and care to families from pre-conception through the years of parenting. I believe preparation for labour and birth is critical to your birth experience and this preparation involves being fully informed of your choices and knowing what is right for you. I help guide you and your partner prepare physically, mentally and spiritually for not only labour and birth but also your journey into parenthood.

One of the most important aspects to preparing for the birth of your baby and for parenthood is for you to learn and embrace that you have everything within you that you need to make the choices that are right for you and to trust yourself. For you to feel supported but even more than this, to feel empowered. Empowered to birth your baby and parent in the way that is right for you.

Postpartum, when so much of the attention is on the precious new baby, my focus is on you as the precious new mother and your transition. As a society, we do not support the transition to motherhood well. I may not be able to change the bigger picture of this, but I can make a difference to your experience. Before you have your baby, I will help you prepare a plan for your postpartum. Who will support you and how. I truly believe if mothers are health, in body, mind and spirit and well supported, then families will be healthy, and communities will thrive.

I have 4 children of my own and have worked in a variety of settings and capacities with families and babies for many years.

As a birth and adoptive mumma I am also passionate about supporting families who are in the process of or have children from adoption or permanent care. I know and understand many of the unique challenges you face and know how important support for your family is.

I offer a variety of packages that I always tailors to your specific needs and wants.

I love what I get to do and regard it an absolute privilege to be part of one’s journey especially during this time.

Services

Birth Support

Support & preparation throughout your pregnancy, postpartum planning and also in person birth support during labour & birth. Includes: 4 antenatal visits Birth plan preparation On call from 38 weeks In person birth support during labour 2 postpartum visits

Postpartum Support

With the void of many families having a 'village', my support in the weeks after your baby is born will be personal and specific to your needs as a family. With an emphasis on caring for the mother, so she can then be rested and supported through this wonderful and intense life transition. With the choice of 2 package, both include: Guidance with baby care, feeding, settling, swaddling etc. Light household duties Meal preparation Emotional support Essential package: 24 hours of support over 6 weeks Ultimate package: 60 hours of support over 6-10 weeks

Education & Birth Preparation

This package includes education and support throughout your pregnancy and preparation for birth and postpartum. Ideal for couples who feel confident in supporting each other but want to be fully informed and empowered to navigate birth together. Includes: 3 antenatal visits Preparing a birth plan 1 postpartum debrief session This DOES NOT include in person birth support
