Over 20 YEARS AGO, I BECAME A MOTHER AND IT WAS MIRACULOUS. I’M NOW A MUM TO 5 BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN AND EACH BIRTH TAUGHT ME MORE ABOUT MYSELF, MY STRENGTH AND MY POWER.
During those 5 births, each of them different, with their own challenges, I learnt that it’s my inner voice, as the mother, which is the most important. I learnt to listen to my instincts, trust my body and I learnt how to advocate for myself and my babies.
Over the years I’ve also learnt the true value of “my village”. Too often new mothers are left to fend for themselves and feel isolated and unsupported. I found my postpartum time, some of the most difficult. So, I focused on building and strengthening my village and made sure I always asked for help when I needed it.
Since my first birth, I intrinsically knew, that I was destined to help other women with their births and to be a part of their village. Now as a Birthkeeper, it’s my sole purpose and absolute pleasure to support women and their families during pregnancy, birth and postpartum.
AS YOU’VE PROBABLY ALREADY DISCOVERED, EVERY MOTHER HAS A DIFFERENT AND UNIQUE CHILDBIRTH STORY.
As your Birth Doula, I will help you (and your partner) in the following areas:
PREPARATION
We will delve into your birth mindset, discussing your expectations and fears about childbirth. Together we will work through the birthing process, applying it directly to how your body works and answering all of your questions. We’ll consider the hospital system and obstetrics in conjunction with local care providers and then prepare a thorough birth plan that meets your exact needs and wants. Knowing what to expect and feeling safe will minimize your stress, allowing you to be present, in the moment.
ENVIRONMENT
Whether you’ve decided to have a home birth or attend a Birth Centre or Hospital, it is my job to make your birthing space feel comfortable and familiar. We can do this by using lights, oils, music as well as any other birthing aids.
SUPPORT
Having continuity of care during labour and birth can reduce the need for interventions. Therefore, to ensure you feel supported at EVERY stage I can be there for you in the first stages of labour, at your home, prior to you attending the hospital (if you wish).
Once at the hospital I’ll be there to support you throughout your labour and then immediately after the birth, allowing you time and space to feel totally comfortable and relaxed within yourself and with your baby. After your baby’s first feed, I’ll help you with your own needs; such as having a shower or something nourishing to eat and drink.
If you are birthing at home I am there when you decide you need me. Supporting you and your family in the ways you wish. Whether that be preparing a meal, attending to other children, being witness to you.
I can’t wait to support you.
